AKKPS Sanctioned Shows

The AKKPS offers AKKPS Members the opportunity to participate in AKKPS Sanctioned shows which enables earned show titles to be entered into the AKKPS Herd Book. 

There are 2 types of AKKPS Sanctioned Shows:

  1. AKKPS Hosted
  2. AKKPS Member Farm Hosted

AKKPS HOSTED & SANCTIONED

  • The AKKPS Hosts and Sanctions 1 AKKPS Show a year using a web casting company.
  • The show date is announced in January each year along with the budget and further details.
  • Show entrants must be a current AKKPS Member on the date of the show as well as the owner of the pigs being shown.
  • Only AKKPS registered and litter notified pigs are accepted to show in AKKPS sanctioned shows.
  • The AKKPS Board Of Directors has 1 board member abstaining from showing and is the sole communicator with the judge and web casting company.  Legal statements (click to view) are signed by all AKKPS BOD Members.

SHOW DISQUALIFICATIONS & RULES

  • All judges' decisions are final - no exceptions
  • All videos shall contain the exhibitor from waist down as much as possible. Excessive view (more than 50 percent) of exhibitor from waist up in video will be a disqualification. The only exception is if the same video is used for a showmanship class in a breeding class. (revised 9/2025) - no exceptions 
  • Videos must include front, back and both sides of the pig - no exceptions
  • All videos must be taken within the current show entry dates.  Videos may be used for other KuneKune shows (revised 9/2025)- no exceptions
  • All Videos must be in landscape format - no exceptions
  • Videos must be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 60 seconds - no exceptions
  • No crouching or bending in front of a pig with food while leading - no exceptions
  • Feed scoops must not appear in videos - no exceptions
  • Exhibitors may not use feed pans / buckets or hold food in their hand - no exceptions
  • No other animals (pigs or other) in the same pen as the pig being shown - no exceptions
  • No other animals (pigs or other) in the near or immediate outside vicinity of the show area - no exceptions
  • Show area must be clean, free of mud, free of feces and maintained - no exceptions
  • All animals 1 year and older must be fully AKKPS registered at the time of show entry closure - no exceptions
  • Animals younger than 1 year must be litter notified with the AKKPS - no exceptions
  • Pigs must be groomed - no exceptions
  • No editing of videos with the exception of sound - no exceptions
  • No logos, banners or signage of any kind is allowed - no exceptions
  • Classes with less than 3 pigs in a class will not be awarded show titles in the AKKPS Herd Book however the pigs may move forward to receive a higher title where there are 3 or more pigs being judged.
    • If there are fewer than 3 entrants classes in a class, classes may be combined to meet the requirement for title herd book entry.

VIDEOS

  • The person shooting the video should stay stationary at all times - suggested
  • Exhibitors should strive to keep the pig moving throughout the video - suggested
  • Videographer should strive to shoot the video at pigs height. All videos shall contain the exhibitor from waist down as much as possible.   • Videos may not be edited except for sound - disqualification

EXHIBITOR / HANDLER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exhibitors can be of any age
  • Exhibitors must own, be a family member or be a working member of the farm the pig is registered to in the current AKKPS Herd Book.

ANIMAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • All animals must be 100% KuneKune and registered with the AKKPS prior to show entry in order to receive show titles in the AKKPS Herd Book.  
    • Litter Notification numbers are accepted for Pigs Under 1 year of age
  • Boars and Gilts/Sows must have a minimum of 10 evenly spaced working teats - no inverted, blunt or pin teats 
  • Be free of scrotal and abdominal hernias and ruptures 
  • Not have cryptorchidism. 
  • Not have hermaphroditism. 
  • Not have an extra dewclaw. 
  • A boar must not have a physical defect which would hinder his ability to effectively reproduce. 
  • Wattled and un-wattled Pigs are qualified to show.
  • The pigs age on the date of the show will determine the class age category the pig will be placed.
  • Should there be multiple heats within a class, the heats will be grouped using the pigs dates of birth.

SHOW AREA

  • Must be clean - no feces or mud - disqualification
  • Good Lighting - suggested
  • Free of tall grass / maintained - disqualification
  • No other animals in the show area or in the near vicinity of show area -  disqualification

SHOW ATTIRE

  • Dark denim or Dark Pants - suggested
  • Collared Polo or Collared Button Down Shirt in a light color - suggested
  • Boots Required - No sandals, crocs or tennis shoes of any kind - suggested
  • No logos or branding (except AKKPS attire) on any clothing - disqualification

PIG PRESENTATION

  • Bathed - suggested
  • Groomed - disqualification
  • Healthy Condition 

ALLOWED SHOW TOOL AIDS

  • ALLOWED
    • Pig Whip 
    • Pig Brush
    • Pig Board / Sorting Board
    • Leading (pig whip tassel or small treat at the end of the stick at snout level)
    • Feed Scoops should not be seen in videos

     

  • NOT ALLOWED - Disqualification
    • Any type of feed bucket or pan
    • Leading with exhibitors hand

RECOGNIZED TITLES & CLASSES

The pigs age on the date of the show will determine the class age category the pig will be placed.

Should there be multiple heats within a class, the heats will be grouped using the pigs dates of birth.

AKKPS JUDGE SCORE CARD - VIRTUAL

Judges are asked to reference the AKKPS Sanctioned Virtual Score card which is derived from the BKKPS Breed Standard & previous virtual AKKPS Sanctioned Shows.

JUDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience judging swine and be approved by the AKKPS Board of Directors,
  • Must not be related to or friends with a member of the  AKKPS Board of Directors or the AKKPS Member Farm Hosting the show.
  • For and AKKPS Member Hosted show, the judge must be approved by the AKKPS Board of Directors
  • Must use the AKKPS Breed Standard (click here)
  • Must use a reference the AKKPS Judge Score Card (click here).

AKKPS HOSTED SANCTIONED SHOWS

  • The judge will be chosen by the AKKPS Board of Directors all of whom will sign a legal document that no BOD Member has a personal or professional relationship with the judge prior to the judge being chosen.
  • One AKKPS Board Member will abstain from entering the show and be the sole source of communication with the judge and 3rd party video auditor.  There will be a legal confidentiality statement signed by the abstaining AKKPS BOD Member.
  • The judge will be apprised of the characteristics of a KuneKune, understand the meaning of KuneKune and be aware the KuneKune is a multi purpose pig.

AKKPS MEMBER HOSTED & AKKPS SANCTIONED

SHOW GUIDELINES

 

  • AKKPS Member hosted Show requests should be submitted by November 1st the year before show sanctioning is requested in order for the sanctioning fee to be included in the yearly budget.
  • The sanctioning fee from the AKKPS is a maximum of $1500 US Dollars paid at completion of the show and the sanctioning dollar amount will be determined once the show is approved for AKKPS Sanctioning by the AKKPS Board of Directors.
  • A maximum of 2 AKKPS Member Farm Sponsored shows will be approved per year on a first come basis.
  • The Member(s) submitting for AKKPS Show sanctioning shall present in writing the following:
    • Specific Details on the show
    • Budget 
    • Requested AKKPS Sanctioning amount
    • Judge Information 
      • Biography
      • Contact Information
      • The AKKPS Board of Directors will interview the judge.
      • The Member Farm(s) hosting the show will be required to sign a legal statement that they do not have a personal or professional relationship with the judge.
      • One AKKPS Board Member will abstain and have sole communication with the judge.
      • Farm submitting for sanctioning shall pick the judge but refrain from any further communucation.

  • The AKKPS Board will review the information and the AKKPS show coordinator will reach out for more information and approval.  
  • A request can be made for Specialty Classes however they will not appear in the AKKPS Herd Book as titles.

AKKPS MEMBER SHOW HOST RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Upholding the AKKPS Show Rules and Regulations
  • To enter an AKKPS Sanctioned show the farm showing must be a current AKKPS Member on the date of the show.
  • Responsible for all Financial aspects of the show. 
    • The AKKPS Sanctioning Fee will be up to $1500 depending on show budget.  The Sanctioning fee will be paid at the end of the show when results are submitted to the AKKPS.

  • Presentation to the AKKPS Board of Directors with show specifics including the following for approval:
