The purpose of this article is to bring to the AKKPS Members attention the importance of Litter Notifying and assigning the appropriate status or pedigree to each pig in the Members AKKPS Member Portal.

The AKKPS does not condone the sale of unregistered animals and strongly encourages all pigs that leave an AKKPS Breeders Farm be put on one of 3 types of registration that the AKKPS offers Breeders.

This does NOT mean that every pig should be placed on Full Registration Papers with breeding rights.

It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that all AKKPS Members keep their portion of the AKKPS Herd Book cleaned up and up to date at all times by using the 3 types of registrations AKKPS offers as well as the different statuses offered.  By doing so, the AKKPS Herd Book is accurate and can be used for accurate statistical purposes.

The AKKPS enourages all litters from AKKPS registered parents be Litter Notified.

Once the decision has been made to is sell or retain a pig - no matter what the purpose of the pig -  the pig should be put on the correct type of registration and put in the owners name or moved to Under Observation status.  By doing this, the pig is in the correct owners name making the pigs owner information correct in the AKKPS Herd Book or it is in the observation catagory awaiting a decision by the breeder as to the purpoe of the pig.

The new owner of a pig does NOT have to be an AKKPS Member.  This allows all pigs that leave an AKKPS Breeders property to be  registered using the 3 different types of pedigrees offered.  In addition, this gets the pig out of the AKKPS Breeders name and into the new owners name.

Parentage DNA verification is NOT required for Companion Animals or Animals for Harvest - However the AKKPS does reserve the right to request DNA verification at any time.

The Companion Animal and Animal for Harvest Pedigree is generally used for barrows if sold to a new owner however both types of pedigrees can be used for in tact animals (gilts/boars).  The AKKPS strongly discourages the sale of intact animals that are not fully registered to avoid unregistered KuneKunes.
